David was born and raised in British Columbia Canada and moved to New Zealand in his early 20’s. His childhood was rich in time spent fishing, skiing, hiking and camping which instilled a lifelong love for the outdoors. Once in New Zealand David entered the Corporate environment but spent every spare moment exploring the outdoor opportunities available in New Zealand. Over time, a network of likeminded outdoor enthusiasts developed and a routine of regular sorties into both; well known and remote locations ensued. During this time David also became known at work as the go to guy when it came to hosting local and overseas customers that were interested in trout fishing or golf. This in turn led to opportunities to host overseas visitors not associated with his workplace.
David has spent more than 20 years fishing and golfing around New Zealand for both personal pleasure and for business reasons. Along the way he has also visited the local attractions and activities available in each location. He has lived in the North and South Islands, is a single figure handicapper and managed one of Auckland’s most popular golf courses. In addition to playing on most of the golf courses in New Zealand he has also fished a large percentage of New Zealand’s streams and rivers. David’s true passion is finding and fishing small wilderness streams that are seldom fished by others.
As the most experienced member of the team and a published author, David was the natural choice to write the bulk of the content and articles for NZ Self Drive Adventures. David currently lives in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty region and still spends every spare moment fishing, golfing or exploring new potential locations for outdoor adventure.
